What You Need To Do
What can you do about acne on your own?
The focus of both home treatment and prescription therapy lie in 3 areas:
- Unclog pores
- Kill bacteria
- Minimize Oil
Open the pores:
There is no magic product or regimen that is right for every person and situation.
- Mild cleansers: Washing once or twice a day with a mild cleansing bar or liquid will keep the skin clean and minimize sensitivity and irritation.
- Exfoliating cleansers: A variety of mild scrubs, exfoliants, and masques can be used. These products contain either fine granules or salicylic acid in a concentration that makes it a very mild peeling agent. These products help remove the outer layer of the skin and thus open pores. We recommend our Retinol Exfoliating Cleanser with Sea Whip Extract.
Kill the bacteria:
The most popular ingredient in over-the-counter antibacterial treatment is benzoyl peroxide (BPO). BPO products come in the form of gels, creams, and lotions, which are applied to affected areas. Benzoyl peroxide can cause red and scaly skin in a small number of people, which goes away as soon as they stop using the product. Finding a product that offers moisturizing ingredients is preferred. We recommend our 6% Benzoyl Peroxide Serum Gel with Sea Whip Extract.
Minimize the oil:
You cannot stop your oil glands from producing oil. What you can do is get rid of oil on the surface of the skin using a gentle astringent/toner to wipe it away. There are many brands available at your local pharmacy.
